A critic has criticised DJ Tshegu, whose true name is Tshegofatso Phetlhu, for being a producer.
One of the podcasters on Piano Pulse, a show on the Podcast and Chill network, recently discussed women who identify as producers in addition to DJs.
It was stated that Tshegu was unable to compose a song, so she was hauled onto the platform.
By threatening to offer the DJ R100,000 if she could write a song in his studio, the podcaster challenged the DJ.
Reactions to the assertion were divided; some people joined in making light of it, while others stood up for DJ Tshegu.
“Does the guy understand that there is a difference between producing and beat-making, you dont necessarily have to make the beat to produce a song. does he think Maphorisa or DJ Khaled make beat,” a Twitter user wrote.
“Not all female DJs can’t produce. Thandi Draai is a great Afro house producer, and she can sing as well,” another wrote.
“Don’t take that money chengu let your work speak for itself and if they don’t believe it’s fine you don’t need to convince them cos they’ve already made assumptions wena pusha spaan. Ka lerato leo,” a fan said to the DJ.
DJ Tshegu dismissed the assertion with a laugh.
